History

As an inhabitant of Iver or Richings Park, you may be interested to know about your Village Hall.

The Old village hall dated from around 1881 but was too small for a growing village and was demolished in the 1960s to make way for a road widening scheme.

Iver Village Hall History

Very many people in Iver and Richings Park got together to raise funds to replace the hall. Ten annual firework displays, many Iver Fayres, a Motocross event, a prestigious fashion show, a water sports day and lots of other events brought together groups with great enthusiasm and imagination.

Eventually, enough money was raised, and a new hall along with the Infant School and Kings Church was built on land previously occupied by Baker’s Garage and the Garibaldi pub as the West Square development.  The hall itself is currently jointly owned by Bucks County Council and is shared with the Iver Village Infants School.  The committee rooms and what was the ‘members’ Bar’ are owned by the Iver Community Association which was set up in 1979 to take charge of and look after the facility.  Iver Community Association became a charity in 1994.

The facility was opened on 8th July 1980 by Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra who lived at Coppins until 1961 and who revisited the hall on the 40th Anniversary on 22nd July 2000.

The facility comprises the main hall with a floor area of 50 x 30ft licensed to seat 200 people with a stage, screen, sound system, kitchen facilities, tables, and chairs. The 4 committee rooms include Garibaldi, (was the bar room) Coppins, Delaford, and Huntsmoor.  There are Ladies and Gents toilets plus a disabled toilet area with child-changing facilities.

Every inhabitant of the Ecclesiastical Parish of Iver over the age of eighteen is automatically a member of the Iver Community Association so the facilities belong to you!  As a member you are entitled to vote at the Annual General Meeting of the Community Association.

The Community Association elects members to the Management Committee of the hall at the Annual General Meeting.  The Management Committee meet once a month to run the facility for the benefit of the inhabitants.

The facilities are used successfully by many people for dances, parties, wedding receptions, shows, sports (indoor bowls, badminton, wrestling and even a Vikings group etc. and the smaller rooms have been used by many committees, small groups, rehearsal rooms, dressing rooms etc.  The 4 Committee rooms are also home to a pre-school on a 5-day a week basis.

The Members’ Club was initially instrumental in raising funds to furnish the facilities but unfortunately decided to close permanently during the Covid lockdown.

Should you want more information or to hire the hall or committee rooms, please check our website for details ivervillagehall.org or contact the Lettings Secretary at ivervillagehall1980@gmail.com / tel. 07863888127.

The next AGM will be held on Thursday 13th October 2022.   Refreshments will be provided.  The Management Committee are currently looking for anyone who would like to help particularly with our website and fund raising but welcome anyone who may be interested.
